Renault Kwid has already become one of the most successful cars in the mini-hatchback segment. Although the car is yet to surpass the Alto in terms of sales, the low-cost car from the French manufacturer has successfully created a niche for itself.
Renault, the French automaker, is planning to come up with a compact multi-purpose vehicle to be named as Renault Kwid MPV. The car will be based on its budget hatchback and will offer 7 seats. As per the early anticipations, the upcoming MPV will probably cost less than the Maruti Ertiga. It is a bit too early to anticipate on the exact launch date, however, rumours are rife that the carmaker might plan to showcase a concept model at the Auto Expo 2018.
Based on the little information that has been gathered, we have listed down the top five features of the new MPV car that you should know.
Renault Kwid MPV Key Features
Engine and Transmission
The new Renault Kwid MPV car should be having the 1.0-litre three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that also does the duty in the Kwid. The engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 64 bhp and a peak torque of 91 Nm. the Kwid MPV is expected to come paired with two options – a five-speed manual transmission system and a five-speed AMT. Moreover, there is a possibility that the car could see a re-tune for the new version so as to make up for a bit addition to the weight.
Renault Kwid MPV Mileage
As mentioned, the specifications of the new MPV would rather be the same as Kwid, it sounds obvious that the mileage will be largely the same. Although the MPV would be slightly heavier than its predecessor, still there won’t be much reduction in the efficiency. As of now, the ongoing model Kwid 1.0 offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 24.04 kmpl with an automatic manual transmission and 23.01 kmpl with a manual transmission system.
Renault Kwid MPV Exterior
The Renault Kwid MPV is expected to look similar to that of the Kwid but will be slightly smaller in size. The front-end is likely to feature the same design as Kwid, however, the side profile and the rear end will be significantly different. The upcoming MPV will also be enjoying a high ground clearance.
Renault Kwid MPV Interior
The interiors of Renault Kwid MPV, much like the exterior, is expected to look similar to that of the Kwid. The car is likely to feature the same dashboard along with the digital speedo cluster. The centre stash will come with piano-black trim, while the centre-console is expected to sport a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. There is also a chrome garnishing around the aircon vents to make the interior look more premium. Apart from these, the sporty steering wheel is the same as that of Kwid.
The Renault Kwid MPV is a low-cost car and ideally, it will not come with a long list of features. However, it will offer all the convenience features that are available in the Kwid 1.0. As far as safety features are concerned, the MPV is likely to feature anti-lock braking system (ABS) and front airbags for the safety of the occupants.
The upcoming Renault Kwid MPV price is likely to start from Rs 4.4 lakh and go up to Rs 6 lakh for the top-end model. As of now, the small MPV segment is successfully dominated by two models- Mahindra Xylo and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. So, there is good chance for Renault Kwid MPV to give tough competition to both of these models.
