Smartphone Review : Motorola Moto G

– Shaneel Karia

  • Android 4.3
  • Value for money
  • Customizable
  • Dual Sim

  • No expandable memory
  • No NFC
  • Poor Camera

With a snapdragon 1.2 GHz quad core processor the Moto G may replace the smartphone which fall under the 15k mark. 11.6 mm thick and a weight of mere 143 gms seems to be decent enough. This device is a dual sim smartphone, another smart move from Motorola.

4.5 inch display with water repellant coating, plus corning gorilla glass used to make it scratch resistant. 1280 x 720 resolution display which manages to deliver 329 ppi (pixels per inch). The IPS technology which all big smartphones like the HTC one and the iPhone 5s uses is incorporated in this device.

1.2 Ghz quad core processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM does wonders with this smartphone. Considering the price at which this device has been launched, Micromax and other contenders will seem to be out of business soon.

Available in 8 and 16 GB only with no expandable microSD slot. But to deal with the storage issue, one is allotted with 50GB storage on Google drive. 2070 mAh battery seems to last for a day on heavy usage, which is pretty good.

Single LED coupled with the 5 mega pixel sensor seems to do an okay okay job. Tap anywhere to click and hold for multiple shots. There is no physical button or even a virtual one to click for images or videos. A decent 1.3 mega pixel front camera does the job.

Micromax also has several smartphones which has drawn several customers towards itself. The main contenders are Magnus and the Canvas 4 models, and even after having a qualcomm processor unlike Micromax’s mediatek one’s, is still cheaper than them. This device unlike others have several customizable panels. Initially there were over 120 combinations that could be created in the US version.

This is the first Smartphone released by Motorola that has been introduced in to the market after Google’s take over. This is a budget smartphone and dual core phones like the Samsung’s S4 Mini and HTC’s One Mini seem to be overpriced in comparison to the Motorola Moto G.

With a price tag of 12,500 Indian rupees for the 8GB and 14,000 for the 16GB this is definitely a smart device.
