Smartphone Review : Sony Xperia Z2

  • Amazing Pixel Density
  • 3GB of RAM
  • NFC
  • Water resistant

  • Price could be killing
  • Too big to use with one hand

Right on the first day of the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2014) which was in Barcelona, Sony had displayed it’s latest weapon, the Sony Xperia Z2. Before jumping on to conclusions let us first have an overview of how the device will look like.

Over Symmetry of the Sony Xperia Z2 seems to be perfect, additionally it is just 8.2mm thick and weighs just 163gms. Waterproof plus dust proof design, allowing underwater photography up to a depth of 1.5 for half and hour.

5.2 inch Water-proof Full HD IPS Display, uses TRILUMINOUS technology accompanied with Live Color LED increasing the color depth and also increasing viewing angles. Pixel Density of 423ppi is impressive and has an edge over the Samsung Galaxy S5 by 8ppi not much of a difference though.

3GB of RAM to support the 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 quad core processor. 20% better graphic performance from the Adreno 320 to the upgraded Adreno 330. Android 4.4 Kitkat ran seamlessly with no strain on the Snapdragon processor. 16GB is official but we also expect a 32GB version of the Xperia Z2, which will be available in Black, White and Purple. 3,200mAh battery is expected to last for around a day and a half or two under moderate usage.

20.7MP G lens which is bound to be an EXMOR RS one, used as an mobile image sensor. BIONZ technology used for mobile image-processing helps creating clear images and videos with minimum blur. Timeshift creates slow motion videos with a frame rate of 120fps, another improvisation from Sony’s side.

Further enhancing from the photography perspective, Clear 3X generates blur free images after zooming, plus the 4K video technology further improvises the recording from regular 1080p High Definition one to 3840 x 2160 resolution. For selfies a 2.2MP sensor seems to be decent enough.

Sony has definitely upgraded itself from the Xperia Z1, especially after an outburst of complaints, this device may end up with no complaints in the long run. The Sony Xperia Z2 is expected to launch by April 2014, and will fall in the price bracket of around 40,000 to 50,000 Indian Rupees.

At present Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and HTC’s Desire 816 seem to be the only competitors unless releases the LG G3 or HTC with the predecessor of the HTC One,  HTC One M8.
